Building your home is probably one of the biggest undertakings that you can take on in your lifetime. Our professional energy consultants will help you with the design and specification of your house in relation to making it as energy efficient as possible without costing you a fortune. We can identify small changes that are not expensive that will have major benefits for your home. Here is the route we use for our self build clients.
Step 1: Company Services
Once a potential client rings us we explain what our company has to offer in relation to designing a specification that will suit you needs for energy saving and that will suit your budget.
Step 2: Consultation
Firstly one of our team will organise to meet you at your desired location to talk discuss and plan the specification you require for your new home. This consultation lasts up to 2 hours and we go through every major aspect of the elements that will save you money in heating your home in the future. The consultancy process will educate you on how the systems we have talked about will work in your home and this has the knock on effect that will make you comfortable about going into the market place and pricing for what you want/need and not what someone is trying to sell you! Here are some of the topics we will discuss.
- Ventilation
- Insulation of building elements
- Window and door systems
- Air tightness & Air tightness testing
- Water and space heating systems
- Lighting
- Control of the heating systems
- Thermal bridging of the dwelling
- Use of renewable energy systems
Step 3: Report
Once we have your desired specification in mind we generate a report on your house that will show you what BER you will achieve and detail the ways to achieve this. This report is easily understood as you will have a very good grasp on all the systems on it from the consultancy process. Once this report is received you are ready to start your home and you can follow all aspects with the comfort in mind that you understand what you need and you have our professional consultancy team for backup until you home is completely finished. Remember there is no such thing as a stupid question if you don’t know the answer so ring if you have any difficulties.
Step 4: Airtightness Test
The airtightness test can be done at one or two stages. It can be done prior to the house being plastered and slabbed as this is the time that your home will be covered up with the final layers of finishes and it gets harder to seal any areas after this. Once the house is airtight at this stage you can proceed in the knowledge that you will not have any air losses from your building letting heat escape. When your home is complete we carry out the second airtightness test to give a final reading on the airtightness of your home. The better the airtightness the better the BER.
Step 5:
Once all of the above is finished we again call out to your new home and go through the final specification of your home. In most cases our clients have gone above and beyond what we have specified to make further improvements to their new home. Once we have all the technical information gathered we generate your Final BER Certificate and present it to you.
